President Bush has nominated transportation veteran John Hill as administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the White House announced Wednesday.

Hill is assistant administrator and chief safety officer for the FMCSA, part of the Department of Transportation.
Before joining the FMCSA, Hill served as the commercial vehicle enforcement division commander for the Indiana State Police.
American Trucking Associations President Bill Graves, in a statement supporting the nomination, said, “I commend President Bush for his decision to nominate John Hill as the next administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. His proven record, both at the state and federal level, as a top safety professional is a tremendous asset and we look forward to working as partners in our continuing efforts to improve highway safety.
“As an industry, we face many challenges in moving the nation’s goods in a safe, efficient, secure and environmentally sound manner. As the chief safety officer of FMCSA, John Hill has demonstrated an understanding of those challenges and the need to bridge the operational needs of the trucking industry with the regulatory responsibilities of the agency.”
Hill’s appointment is subject to Senate ratification.
