Barr-Nunn teamed up with the Marine Corps again this year to assist in the delivery of toys for the Toys for Tots program.
Toys for Tots is a program run by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. Its mission is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year. The toys are given out to underprivileged children in the community.
Barr-Nunn Transportation has partnered with the Marine Corps for the past few years including everything from advertising for Marine recruitment to volunteering one of their trucks.
Barr-Nunn company driver Howard Travers has been involved in Toys-for-Tots for the past five years. Travers drove a truck filled with toys to deliver. He originally got involved with Toys-for-Tots because his nephew is a Marine.
This year, the program took place on Saturday, Dec. 6 in the parking lot of the NBC Channel 6 Team studio in South Bend, Ind. They collected close to 20,000 toys for numerous children, which was more than previous years, mainly because of the tough economic times.
Howard drove a truck filled with toys to deliver.
"It was great to participate this year because in tough times like these, this program is more important than ever," said Travers.
