In an effort to expand, Atlas World Group has purchased Smart Move, forming a new joint relocation entity called Smart Move Transportation.
The new entity will build upon the company's existing container-based relocation division, Atlas Accel.

The Smart Move acquisition will allow Atlas to expand its customer base to include more residential customers, who generally need smaller shipment solutions.

"Historically, the relocation industry has struggled with small shipments -- a lot of van lines turn them away," said Glen Dunkerson, chairman and CEO of Atlas World Group. "We don't want to turn down anyone who needs help with a move. Smart Move now allows Atlas to offer a solution to transport small shipments safely and quickly."

Smart Move provides transportable vaults that customers pack and unload on their own for quicker relocations, Atlas says. Under the new structure, customers will have the option of having Atlas handle packing, loading and unloading.

"A lot of times people select container-based services under the impression they can handle everything themselves, but what if your family or friends don't show up to help you load the container?" Dunkerson said.
