A free, one-day course called "Mastering Alertness and Managing Driver Fatigue" will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 11 at the American Trucking Assns. headquarters in Alexandria, Va.
Too many truck drivers are unaware of the correlation between mental and physical health and job performance. A healthier, well-rested driver translates into increased highway safety, job satisfaction and employee retention while reducing medical costs.
These outcomes benefit both the driver and the company. To help address these unique human resource issues, ATA's American Transportation Research Institute and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) have joined together to develop an innovative lifestyle management training course.
The fatigue seminar, as well as a driver health and wellness discussion, is intended to help managers educate their drivers about specific lifestyle health risks that can adversely affect them and the industry.
