Representatives of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and the trucking company ABF have reached a tentative contract agreement.
According to a statement released by the less-than-truckload carrier, the new pact is for five years.
Neither side offered more details about the agreement, other than ABF saying it meets several of its goals, including to “maintain the best‐paying jobs in the freight industry, stay in our current pension funds…put ABF on a path of profitability to secure jobs and retirement benefits, now and in the future.”
The Teamsters say no further details will be released until leaders from local unions that represent ABF members meet in the near future to review the tentative agreement and decide whether to endorse it. ABF says more details will be forthcoming.
Twice earlier the two sides agreed to extend talks past the current contract original expiration.
ABF is the largest subsidiary of Arkansas Best Corp., which also owns Panther Expedited Services, which was purchased nearly a year ago.
