Authorities in Albany approved a toll increase on the New York Thruway system last week. Increases will reportedly be 35% for trucks and 25% for cars.
The Thruway Authority will hold public hearings across the state, starting in February, before taking a final vote in April.
The money is supposed pay for improvements on more than 500 miles of the 641-mile highway system, including more rest-stop parking spaces for trucks, over the next six years.
"Yes, we're asking people to pay more for the first time in 17 years, but we're also giving more," said Michael Fleischer, executive director of the Thruway Authority.
