Landstar Breaks Ground on Orientation Center in Texas

Landstar System Inc. officially broke ground on its new orientation center in Ft. Worth, Texas. The new 12,000 square foot facility in Ft. Travel Centers of America LLC has agreed to acquire 31 convenience stores with retail gasoline stations for $67 million, before closing costs and customary working capital adjustments. The seller is a private company which operates these stores under its proprietary brand name Minit Mart.

Diesel Forecast for 2014 Drops to $3.73

Falling Brent crude oil prices has once again lowered the projected average price for diesel in 2014. The U.S. Energy Department’s Energy Information Administration’s new Short-Term Energy Outlook expects diesel fuel prices, which averaged $3.97 per gallon in 2012, are projected to average $3.91 per gallon in 2013 and $3.73 per gallon in 2014.

Highway Fatalities Rose 3.3% in 2012

The national highway safety effort lost ground in 2012 as fatalities from both car and truck crashes increased compared to the previous year. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports a 3.3% increase, from 32,479 to 33,561.
