Blumenauer to Propose Diesel and Gasoline Tax Hikes

Rep. Earl Blumenauer, D-Ore., will introduce bills to raise federal fuel taxes, index them to inflation and test a vehicle-mile tax. The proposals, which Blumenauer is scheduled to discuss on Capitol Hill Wednesday, come as Congress begins to consider ways to revive funding for U.S. roads and bridges.

Woman Admits to Double Brokering Scheme

A woman has pleaded guilty to charges in U.S. District Court in Macon, Ga., for her involvement in a double-brokering freight scam. On Nov. 20, Pauline Robinson-Kirkland, of Donalsonville, Ga., admitted to mail fraud. She was indicted in July 2012.

TCA Expands Health Competition’s Scope, Renames it 'Long-Haul Weight Loss Showdown'

After sponsoring three highly successful weight-loss challenges within the trucking industry, with more than 7,600 pounds lost, the Truckload Carriers Association has now added a 30-week maintenance component. Combined with the initial 10 weeks of weight loss, the entire program will last for 10 months in 2014, and will be called the “Long-Haul Weight Loss Showdown.”
