Xata announced that since introducing the Android platform in early 2011, Xata has certified 10 new mobile devices, most recently the Motorola Admiral and the Motorola Atrix 2, for its electronic onboard recorder system.


Xata says it is the first EOBR solution provider to bring 4G connectivity into the truck cab.

The Admiral is the first Android-powered smartphone with 'push-to-talk' functionality, using the Sprint Direct Connect network, Xata says.

Driven by a 1.2 gigahertz (GHz) processor, the Admiral is designed for both speed and durability. It resists dust, shock, vibration, and operates well in extreme temperatures, making it one of the most flexible trucking industry smartphones on the market.

Also just certified by Xata Turnpike is the Motorola Atrix 2, which runs on the AT&T network. It features 4G connectivity and a 1 GHz dual-core processor, enabling drivers and others to quickly download all the files they need, without having a Wi-Fi connection.

In addition to these and more than 20 other Blackberry, Intermec, HTC, Motorola and Samsung smartphones, five Android tablet computers have already been certified by Xata Turnpike, including the popular Dell Streak 7, the Galaxy 7 and 10.1, and the HTC View.

Xata Turnpike has already certified the most popular Android phones and will soon announce the certification of two others: the Motorola Bionic and the Motorola Droid Razr.
