OnRamp Transportation Services has launched a trailer leasing program targeted at owner-operators and independent contractors. The program is geared for those contractors who run for carriers that require or pay extra for driver-supplied trailer equipment.
The program is a sister program to OnRamp's tractor sub-lease program, which supplies moderately used tractor equipment that is still under its first lease term. The tractors are targeted at contractors who run for approved carriers and have lower weekly payments, lower miles, improved fuel economy and lower maintenance costs.
"These two programs put more purchasing power into the hands of contractors and owner-operators, who for too long have not had the wherewithal to acquire the right kinds of equipment for today's trucking environment," says Ron Dietz, vice president of trailer equipment.
The program is designed to help approve those contractors and owner-operators who are in or have recently gone through the recruiting and contracting process with one of OnRamp's approved carries. These carriers, located throughout the U.S., refer their contractors to OnRamp's leasing department, where dry, refrigerated, flatbed and other trailer types can be acquired. Term lengths vary and payment plans are set in accordance with the carriers' pay rates.
"We've piloted this program with a number of carriers throughout the country and found that contractors are excited to acquire more of the equipment they need for a full trucking operation," Dietz says. "For a lot of these men and women, this is the first step towards running their own trucking firm."
