"The new Kenworth T440 offers excellent value, productivity and aerodynamics to truck operators and fleets in heavy front-axle regional haul and pickup and delivery applications," said Gary Moore, Kenworth assistant general manager for marketing and sales. "This versatile truck will also benefit vocational and municipal customers who need a heavy front axle for dumps, mixers and fire trucks."

Along with a gross vehicle weight ranging from 33,000 pounds to 68,000 pounds, the model is equipped with a Paccar PX-8 engine, rated from 260 horsepower to 350 horsepower and 1,150 pounds-feet to 1,300 pounds-feet of torque. An optional 9-liter, 2010 Cummins ISL engine is rated from 345 horsepower to 380 horsepower and 1,150 pounds-feet to 1,300 pounds-feet of torque.

The model can be ordered with a range of manual and automatic transmissions and includes 12,000- to 22,000 pound-rated front axles, 21,000- to 26,000 pound-rated single rear axles and 40,000- to 46,000-pound-rated tandem rear axles.

The interior is similar to Kenworth's Class 8 product line, with the multiplexed dash and large panel for installing body controls and gauges. All models come with the Kenworth Driver Information Center and are available in extended day cab. The interior is larger than the traditional day cab, with 6 additional inches of length and 5 more inches of cab height. The T440 can be ordered with the air ride cab and a 38-inch Kenworth AeroCab sleeper. Also available are factory installation of a power take-off and one lift axle.

A new aerodynamic sloped hood provides the driver with greater forward visibility. Other standard features on the model include a three-piece aerodynamic bumper, the signature grille, and forward lighting with Halogen projector headlamps. An aluminum or steel channel bumper and high intensity discharge lighting are available as options.
