ATDynamics Plans to Sell 50,000 TrailerTails by 2014

ATDynamics says it's on track to sell 50,000 of its aerodynamic TrailerTails by 2014, and it announced several measures to help it get there.
Andrew Smith, founder and CEO of ATDynamics, said 50,000 by 2014 is realistic, looking at the company's current rate of adoption; more than 5,000 have been sold already.
ATDynamics' "Campaign for the Next 50,000 Tails" includes:
1. Increased options for factory-installed TrailerTails at OEM facilities.
2. An expanded 2012 swing door TrailerTail product line that provides solutions for all dry van and reefer trailers, including drop deck and rolling tarp trailers.
3. Commercial launch of the TrailerTail roll door product line in 2012.
4. Expansion of the company's Fleet Trial Program to allow trucking companies to pilot up to 200 TrailerTail units risk-free. Previous trials were limited to 10 to 20 units. "A fleet can quickly run a million miles on 200 units," Smith said, allowing it to determine potential fuel savings faster.
The company says 50,000 additional trailers with tails will mean more than $80 million in annual fuel savings for the industry.
The increasing adoption of trailer side skirts, Smith said, shows that "fleets have realized they can invest in trailers as a key part of profitability."
"Skirts save fuel, and tails double those savings," added Kyle Houston, vice president of sales.
"We're redefining normal," Smith said. "We think in the next five years, it will be unusual to see a trailer without a tail."
