Despite a possible sign auto sales may have plateaued, several economic reports this week continue to look strong, including factory-made goods and the U.S. trade deficit.
Auto haulers have a good reason to expect 2015 will be a good year for them, following a prediction that new car and light truck sales and leases will hit nearly hit the 17 million-level.
UPDATED -- The U.S. gross domestic product increased at an annual rate of 4.2% in the second quarter of the year, according to a second estimate released Thursday by the U.S. Commerce Department -- its best pace since the third quarter of last year.

Sales of new autos in the United States last year should post their performance since 2007, despite a slight dip in December, according to published reports.
Sales of new automobiles, light-trucks and SUV’s in the U.S. picked up their pace dramatically last month, hitting an annual rate of 16.4 million, far above the 15.3 million yearly rate in October and the best since early 2007.
Sales of new automobiles in the United States increased 10.6% in October from the same time a year ago.
A more than two-year streak in U.S. auto sale gains came to an end in September, but don’t read too much into the decline, say analysts. Early estimates show new sales fell 4% in September compared to the same time a year ago, to a little more than 1.1 million vehicles.
