Marangoni Tread North America announced a new addition to its conventional precured line of retreads, aimed at the intermodal market.

Unitread Intermodal is available in 180 & 190 widths. According to Giampaolo Brioschi, product marketing manager, it has a superior modern tread design that was specifically engineered for this market application. It uses a special compound and a lighter tread design to preserve the integrity and longevity of the casing.

Intermodal tires are exposed to a wide variety of extreme conditions, including ozone. Marangoni Intermodal passed ozone test ASTMD1149B with no cracking, Brioschi noted.

"Domestic intermodal has been on a strong growth track due to things like lower fuel cost and improving service, as well as major investments into rail networks," he said. "We expect this trend will continue and fuel the need for our new Marangoni Intermodal."
