The trucking industry and law enforcement raised more than $90,000 when 136 trucks participated in the 9th Annual World’s Largest Truck Convoy for Special Olympics Wisconsin presented by Quad/Graphics on Saturday, Sept. 21.

Law enforcement officials escorted the trucks the entire 53 mile route along U.S. Highway 41 from the Pioneer Travel Plaza in Richfield to the EAA Grounds in Oshkosh to celebrate their support of Special Olympics athletes and to mark the end of National Truck Driver Appreciation Week.

The morning kicked off at 9:30 a.m. with a ceremony and live auction for the top lead truck spots. Truckers also bid to have celebrity guests Corianne Strupp, Miss Collegiate Wisconsin America 2013, and Edgar Hansen of the Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch, sponsored by E.H. Wolf & Sons, Inc., ride alongside them the entire journey.

SOWI athletes and families gathered along overpasses to wave signs of encouragement and greeted the truckers with cheers as they pulled into their destination. The event concluded with food, raffle prizes, a live auction and award presentations.

For the past five years, Wisconsin’s Convoy has been the top fundraising Convoy, raising more than $695,600 since 2005 to benefit people with intellectual disabilities and to garner support for America’s truckers. The event takes place in more than 20 States and four Canadian provinces, and is partnered with the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics, a grassroots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle that brings law enforcement officials together with Special Olympics athletes.

The event would not have been possible without the support of the Convoy’s presenting partner, Quad/Graphics and founding partners, the Wisconsin Motor Carriers Association, the Waupun Truck-N-Show and Convoy hosts, the Pioneer Travel Plaza and EAA.
