Nashville, Tenn.-based Western Express has ordered 900 Freightliner Cascadia tractors equipped with 2010 Detroit Diesel Corporation DD15 engines featuring BlueTec emissions technology.


Western Express, a dry van, flatbed, dedicated and brokerage truckload transportation services provider, chose the Cascadia for its fuel efficiency, reliability and driver comfort, according to Freightliner.

"This continues our commitment to going green, reducing our carbon footprint, and the EPA SmartWay program," said Wayne Wise, CEO and president for Western Express. "We delayed our purchase of new tractors in anticipation of this new technology."

The order entails a three-year agreement covering nearly 2,800 trucks and will make Western Express predominantly an all-Freightliner vehicle fleet, Wise said.

BlueTec, Detroit Diesel's solution for meeting the 2010 EPA emissions standards, can provide up to 5 percent better fuel economy over the DD15 EPA 2007, the company says.
