Dec. 23 – Chattanooga, TN-based U.S. Xpress is moving into new headquarters this week.
The facility will consolidate employees currently operating at the company’s two leased office facilities on South Market Street and Shallowford Road in Chattanooga.
The new corporate headquarters will include offices for administration, accounting and finance, marketing, operations, information technology, human resources, safety, driver recruiting and public relations. Equipment maintenance and most driver-related services will continue to be based at the company’s Tunnel Hill, GA, terminal.
The triangular, three-story, 97,000-square-foot building is located off of I-75 just north of town. It will house about 450 employees, and is designed for future growth, says Greg Thompson, U.S. Xpress spokesman.
The company chose Christmas to move because it’s the slowest time of year. The new AS 400 computer has already been installed. On Christmas Eve, the phone service will be switched from current headquarters on Market Street to the new location at around 3 p.m., so the next shift of operations and switchboard personnel will begin actually working at the new building. Then Saturday, movers will come in and transfer the rest of the Market Street operation to the new facilities.
“So on Monday morning after the holidays, everyone from Market Street will be reporting to the new building,” Thompson says. Employees from the company’s Shallowford Road operations and Tunnel Hill terminal will move within the next few weeks. The entire move should be complete by mid-January.
Although the new facilities do not include a terminal, Thompson says care has been taken to make sure drivers can maneuver and park their rigs at the new headquarters.
