Executives from Hub Group, M&W Logistics, and U.S. Xpress will share insights on how they're dealing with COVID-19 issues such as drivers, maintenance, and personnel policies in a free webinar. The hour-long webinar, "How Fleets Are Navigating the COVID-19 Pandemic," will be held Tuesday, April 28, at noon EDT/9 a.m. PDT.
Even as some states look for ways to “reopen” for business, many trucking fleets are still coming to grips with the best ways to keep drivers supplied with sanitizer and take care of those who come down with COVID-19 symptoms, how to keep their trucks running while maintaining social distancing and best sanitation practices in the shop, and how to manage HR policies regarding everything from working at home to sick time.
Moderated by HDT Editor in Chief Deborah Lockridge, the panel will feature:
Gerry Mead, Executive VP of Maintenance, Hub Group, Oak Brook, Illinois
Mead, a former HDT Truck Fleet Innovator, has more than three decades of multi-faceted experience in the trucking industry. He has managed maintenance at some of the nation’s biggest fleets, including J.B. Hunt, Walmart, P.A.M. Transport, U.S. Xpress, and now Hub Group. With expertise in equipment specs, business intelligence, process improvement, and innovation, he’ll share insights from what Hub Group has done in its shop and maintenance program to maximize uptime while protecting technicians, including social distancing procedures, sanitizing trucks, parts buying strategies, etc.
Chris Woody, Safety Manager, M&W Logistics, Nashville, Tennessee
A 2020 HDT Truck Fleet Innovator, Woody has a passion for safety, and has used onboard technology and data to build a safety bonus program, coach drivers, and foster a safety culture at the truckload carrier. He will share how his company worked to address the COVID-19 crisis by assembling a team, planning for each scenario, communicating the plan clearly to employees, executing the plan as needed, and the need to stay calm, in control, and trust the plan.
Amanda Thompson, Chief People Officer, U.S. Xpress, Chattanooga, Tennessee
Thompson oversees human resources, including policy creation, for the nation’s fifth largest truckload carrier with over 9,000 employees. With an extensive background in HR, she started her human resources career in the carpet industry and transitioned to the transportation industry in 2004. Over her 15-year career at U.S. Xpress, she has been responsible for overseeing the development of numerous programs that promote professional development, including the Leadership Excellence and Development (LEAD) award-winning Xpress Elite program that provides cross training and mentorship to employees from every department. She will share how U.S. Xpress developed, implemented, and communicated policies and procedures to deal with the COVID-19 crisis.
Attendees will be offered a chance to ask questions of the panel.
