Registration is open for the third annual National Student Technicians Competition at this year’s TMCFutureTech 2016, announced event sponsor Velociti.

The event is designed to promote career opportunities as heavy-truck technicians and will be held in conjunction with the National Technician Skills Competition. The National Technician Skills Competition is held by American Trucking Associations’ Technology & Maintenance Council during its Fall Meeting, which takes place Sept. 18-22, in Raleigh, N.C.

“Sponsoring TMCFutureTech is our way of supporting the effort to promote career opportunities as heavy-truck technicians at a time when the shortage of technicians at fleets is often overlooked, and is compounded by the need for staff trained to maintain and repair more complex vehicle systems,” said Deryk Powell, president of Velociti.

TMCFutureTech consists of a set of skill stations for technician students and takes place at the same time as the professional TMCSuperTech competition.

Student winners will be announced at the TMCSuperTech Awards Luncheon during the Council’s 2016 Fall Meeting. Additionally, the top three winners’ schools will be presented with prizes at the 2017 Annual Meeting and Transportation Technology Expo.

In 2016, Velociti officially recognized the winners of TMCFutureTech 2015, presenting prizes that included gift certificates for tools and other items, and access to an ASE Truck Technician Test prep program. It also presented tools, supplies, test preparation modules, and a complete transmission for training purposes to the grand champion’s school.

Registration for TMCFutureTech includes a fee of 200 and is limited to 80 individuals. The registration deadline is Aug. 15, 2016. Go to Velociti’s website to download a registration form.
