Infrastructure Week is kicking off this week, May 15 – 19, highlighting infrastructure as a key policy issue nationwide. Infrastructure Week is an industry-wide image and education movement, featuring a series of events, education, and advocacy efforts.

This year’s theme is #TimeToBuild, and the goal is to bring together American businesses, workers, elected leaders and everyday citizens around a common goal toward improving the nation’s infrastructure, according to organizers.

Infrastructure Week was founded and is led by a bipartisan steering committee that includes business groups, labor unions and think tanks working to improve America’s infrastructure. The steering committee and more than 150 affiliates at the national, state, and local levels, represent stakeholders from manufacturers and retailers to mayors and average citizens.

Groups such as Trucking Moves America Forward are joining the effort to promote infrastructure reform by using social media and other means to get the word out.

TMAF is promoting infrastructure-focused messages on its social media properties and has also featured a blog post on the Infrastructure Week website. TMAF advocates for infrastructure spending that improves the highway networks that are most critical to freight and interstate travel, while prioritizing the safety of the motoring public. The group supports action from lawmakers at state and federal levels to close the nation’s infrastructure investment gap.

"When poor infrastructure slows down trucking, it slows down all of America," said Kevin Burch, co-chairman of TMAF, president of Jet Express and chairman of American Trucking Associations. "With our 3.5 million drivers traveling 279.1 billion miles annually to deliver the goods that our towns and cities need to thrive, trucking is directly impacted by poor roads, bridges and tunnels. That's why we're proud to once again support Infrastructure Week and bring this issue to the forefront of national policy conversations."
