After closing in late September due to sagging, the Leo Frigo Memorial Bridge in Green Bay is set to reopen to traffic in both directions on Sunday, Jan 5.
Repairs have been completed three weeks ahead of schedule after they began in November.
The $18 million to $20 million project was done following a state investigation that found the 400 ft. area that was sagging by around two-feet, was caused by corrosion of steel pilings around one of its supporting piers, as much as ten-feet below ground. Testing revealed soil around the pilings was contaminated with a corrosive compound.
The bridge handles an estimated 30,000 to 40,000 vehicles a day, while its closing leading to traffic problems due to detours.
