Schneider National Inc. is participating in the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency (CCRA) Partners in Protection (PIP) program
.
The program is intended to foster a secure trade chain between both countries and increase awareness of customs compliance issues crucial to international security.
The CCRA developed PIP to foster government and private industry cooperation in increasing border security. The PIP program does not require participants to act as law-enforcement bodies. PIP promotes awareness and the confidential exchange of information among members to combat organized crime and terrorism and help detect and prevent the transfer of illegal goods across borders.
"Thousands of Schneider National driver associates navigate interstates across the United States and in Canada every day," said Tanya Smith, manager, Partners in Protection Program, Contraband and Intelligence Services Directorate. "These men and women are the eyes and ears of our roadways and play an important role in the Partners in Protection program by serving as another line of defense against terrorism and contraband."
"Schneider National is proud to participate in the Partners in Protection program and support the efforts of the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency to increase international security and foster the flow of legitimate trade between our countries," said Scott Arves, president of transportation, Schneider National.
As part of the PIP program, participating companies are required to submit an assessment of their security systems to the CCRA for evaluation.
Organizations that demonstrate their commitment to a secure trade chain by joining the PIP program are eligible to participate in the Free and Secure Trade (FAST) program. FAST is a joint Canada-U.S. initiative that supports movement of pre-approved eligible goods across the border.
Schneider National is an approved FAST carrier for Canadian loads, and is conditionally approved to participate in FAST for U.S. loads, following certification in the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) program, a joint government-business initiative.
