Less-than-truckload carrier Saia, of Duluth, Ga., has reported transit time reductions of one or more days off approximately 11-million zip pairs – point-to-point lanes -- between points in its 21-state market.

The company claims it is the greatest such reduction in its history.
Effective this month, Saia reduced transit-shipping times to customers in thousands of cities. A total of 40% will involve improvements within regional markets, and 60% will impact interregional markets. During the past four years, Saia has reduced transit times in more than 20-million zip pairs across its system.
"Our research indicates that transit times continue to rank as the No. 1 priority for our customers," said Saia President and CEO Rick O'Dell.
According to Saia, improved transit times result from network engineering and the use of more 28-foot pup trailers in its line-haul operation. Saia has purchased 850 28-foot logistics post trailers at an investment of approximately $13 million. The use of pup trailers provides for more direct loading and less handling of freight and optimizes load density. Built-in load bars provide protection with stacking and bracing capabilities.
