“We see a great deal of opportunities to gain market share in this region as well as elsewhere to offer expanded services to our existing international customer base,” said Tony Apa, president and founder of Mark-It, which was launched in 2009.

Mark-It, which offers third-party logistics and intermodal logistics solutions, including local and regional drayage and yard services, as well as multi-modal freight brokerage services. The firm was recently named to Crain Chicago’s Fast 50 for the second time and to the Inc.5000 for the fourth time.

The company operates three terminals; in Lemont, Illinois, Detroit Michigan, and Kansas City, Kansas. Apa said that “with the Spirit strategic acquisition, our satellite terminals in Detroit, Kansas City and several drop lots in the Chicago area used to park power units, containers, and chassis will have significantly increased capacity to service our customers and reduce their costs by having equipment closer to their needs and lowering their overall fuel and labor costs.”

Robert Denton, president of Spirit, selected Mark-It as "the best choice and fit to continue the leadership of the company he founded in 1979," according to the news release, which noted the carrier is especially known for “the way it optimizes container moves that benefit its customers and drivers.”

Apa said that “Bob felt Mark-It was the best combination of culture and fit to continue Spirit’s history of outstanding service for its customers and remarkable employee satisfaction that has led to best-in-class retention levels of drivers and office personnel.”
