Mack has launched the Mack ClearTech One, a single-package exhaust aftertreatment system that combines the diesel particulate filter, selective catalytic reduction and diesel exhaust fluid dosing system into one unit.
Combining all parts of the aftertreatment into one package increases flexibility and allows for increased frame-rail space for chassis-mounted equipment. Customers can also opt for larger fuel tanks without the need to lengthen the wheelbase.
“Our customers demand versatility from their trucks so they can successfully get the job done, no matter the task,” said John Walsh, Mack vice president of marketing. “Mack ClearTech One offers our customers a functional design, as well as another EATS option, enabling more packaging space for equipment needs while also increasing maneuverability of the vehicle.”
The ClearTech One weighs 15 pounds less than the current two-unit EATS and is more compact that the two-component system allowing for a shorter wheelbase.
The system also is designed for better regeneration and SCR performance. The SCR catalyst is mounted downstream of the DPF to prevent hydrocarbon, ash or soot from entering the system. Because of the design, there is no need for a second diesel oxidation catalyst to be located before the SCR system.
ClearTech One will be available for order in August 2016 in Mack Pinnacle and Mack Granite models. Mack also will continue to offer the two-unit ClearTech EATS for specific applications such as tandem steering.
