Mack Trucks has announced extended service intervals for diesel particulate filters and diesel engine oil and filter changes on all model year 2011 and newer Mack trucks with an MP7, MP8 or MP10 engine.

The recommended service intervals for engine oil and filter changes have been increased by 10,000 miles. For long-haul trucks it is 45,000 miles, for regional haul it is 35,000 miles and for heavy haul it was moved to 25,000 miles. Mack recommends that owners whose engines idle more than 30% of the time should use the next shorter service interval.

Diesel particulate filter service intervals have been extended from 250,000 miles to 400,000 miles for long- and regional-haul applications.

“Using data from our EPA 2010-compliant trucks, we’ve been able to verify that our newer engines produce significantly less particulate matter, enabling us to expand the service window for DPFs and engine oil and filter changes,” said Roy Horton, Mack director of product marketing.

The extended engine oil and filter change intervals save between 4 and 16 oil drains on a truck with a 600,000-mile service life depending on duty cycle, according to Mack. The DPF interval extension will also allow owners to cut the number of filter replacements or cleanings from two to just one over the life of the vehicle, said the OEM.
