Former Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood joined the law firm DLA Piper, the firm announced. LaHood will serve as senior policy advisor in the firm’s Washington, D.C., and Chicago offices. Joining him in the move is his former chief of staff at DOT, Joan DeBoer.

LaHood will serve as senior policy advisor in the firm’s Washington, D.C., and Chicago offices. Joining him in the move is his former chief of staff at DOT, Joan DeBoer.
The move comes shortly after LaHood joined Building America’s Future, a group working to promote reinvestment in the national infrastructure. As co-chair of the group, LaHood is working with Ed Rendell, former governor of Pennsylvania, and Michael Bloomberg, former mayor of New York City, to get Congress to raise money for roads.
LaHood served as DOT Secretary, and DeBoer as his chief of staff, from 2009 to 2013. Among their other achievements, they were instrumental in passage of the current highway program, MAP-21. Now they are positioned to participate in the drafting of MAP-21’s successor, due by next October.
