InformationWeek has released its 21st annual InformationWeek 500 list, honoring 25 trucking and logistics companies
. The corporate rankings highlight innovation in information technology, rather than simply identifying the biggest IT spenders. Winners are featured in the magazine's Sept. 14 issue.
To be ranked in the InformationWeek 500, companies with revenue of $250 million or more must be invited to complete a rigorous application on their technology strategies. The process includes quantitative and qualitative assessments of business technology innovation. Completed applications are reviewed by a panel of InformationWeek editors, who determine the ranking.
In the magazine's snapshot of the transportation and logistics industry, companies found the most effectiveness in using new types of collaboration software and business intelligence tools, with 58 percent and 55 percent, respectively. When asked how their company is innovating, 61 percent are making business processes more efficient, while 42 percent are lowering IT or business costs. Another 42 percent said they are also getting better business intelligence to more employees, faster. When asked about their Web focus, 71 percent have hosted collaborative applications, and 68 percent use software-as-a-service.
