If you're heading into Memphis, Tenn., you will soon be able to get information on the I-40/240 interchange construction project via radio.
The Highway Advisory Radio System will go live on Tuesday, June 5, according to Tennessee Department of Transportation officials. It has been assigned a frequency of 1550 AM.
"This is another way that we can provide information to motorists as they travel through this interchange to let them know how they can avoid the work zone and advise them on the contractor's work schedule and activity," said TDOT region director Winston Gaffron.
The information will be updated as necessary by the project engineer and will run 24 hours a day. Informational signage will be placed in advance of the project on both interstates. Similar information is posted on the state's web site at www.tdot.state.tn.us.
Last January, TDOT officials announced the long-term I-40/240 interchange project designed to alleviate traffic congestion at what has become a major chokepoint for Memphis traffic due to increased growth in the area.
The first phase is scheduled to be finished by October 2003. The second phase, still on the drawing board, is not expected to be funded or let to contract until at least 2004.
