In Gov. Cuomo's state of the state address yesterday, he introduced a plan for the New York Works Fund and Task Force, an entity that would make all the funding decisions for roads, bridges, parks, flood control and municipal water systems.

Cuomo discussed plans to improve more than 100 bridges, including the Tappan Zee bridge. "We are going to repair 2,000 miles of roads," Cuomo added. "That's from Buffalo to New York City five times."

Kendra Adams, executive director for the New York State Motor Truck Association , says NYSMTA is pleased that New York state transportation is getting this kind of attention. However, the association has mixed feelings because funding plans have yet to be disclosed.

"We don't have the full details on how they plan on funding the plan itself. We're willing to take a look at it and see before we pass judgment," Adams says.

One thing Adams says NYSMTA does look forward to is the repair of the Tappan Zee bridge, which stretches across the Hudson river. "They've been studying how they're going to replace that bridge for 15 years," she says. "It's actually in very unsafe condition."

Cuomo, whose address deviated significantly from his prepared remarks, said in the address that the NY Works Fund and Task Force will "master plan, coordinate, leverage, and accelerate capital investment and put thousands of New Yorkers to work in every corner of the state."
