Heavy Duty Trucking magazine is seeking nominations for its 2017 Safety & Compliance Award, which recognizes trucking executives who have demonstrated excellence in fleet safety.

The award is open to fleet, risk, EHS, safety, sales and HR managers who have shown leadership, innovation, and measurable results while enhancing the safety of their drivers and others sharing the road with them.

Nominees are evaluated by a panel of industry leaders who will determine the eventual winner.

The award will be presented at this year’s Fleet Safety Conference, taking place July 25-26 at the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center Hotel in Schaumburg, Ill.

Nominees must fill out a questionnaire that will determine the nature, breadth, and scope of his or her organization's compliance programs. The nomination deadline is April 24, so make sure to fill it out before that date. The form is online and is available here.

Last year’s Safety & Compliance Award winner was Kelsey Wolfe, the director of safety, human resources and recruiting for Southern Freight Services. Wolfe personally created each of the safety policies at the Tennessee-based carrier and integrated her commitment to safety with her responsibilities for recruiting, hiring, and training drivers.

Under Wolfe’s supervision, SFS saw its CSA performance improve and the fleet was recognized by customers and brokers for its service and safety. The fleet was recognized in 2015 by the Tennessee Trucking Association, placing first for fleet safety in competition with fleets running 0-3 million miles.

Policies that Wolfe created included the Required Road Test and Certification policy, Drug- and Alcohol-Free Workplace Standards, and the SFS Driver Agreement with rules on attitude and professionalism as well as a strictly enforced cell-phone policy and several others.
