Each year, HDT recognizes a single trucking executive from the industry who has demonstrated proven, measurable excellence in fleet safety. The editors of HDT look for someone who has shown leadership and innovative, and the ability to enhance the safety of their drivers.

Heinowski went from auditing motor carriers as a safety investigator for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration for about 20 years to leading safety and compliance as a logistics manager at Meijer.

During her time at Meijer, she has focused on driver trainer and leads in-house programs that make it possible for drivers right out of driver school and warehouse workers to have the opportunity to become safe and experienced drivers.

Her team is an early adopter of safety technologies, and constantly tracks and monitors data regarding both accidents and injuries/lost time. In the past years the private carrier's DOT recordable accident rate has reduced.

She is an active member of the National Private Truck Council’s Safety Committee, is one of nine members of the governor’s Michigan Truck Safety Commission, a member of the Michigan State Police’s Motor Carrier Advisory Board, and a member of Michigan Trucking Associations board of directors.
