Freightliner Custom Chassis Corp. and Daimler Trucks North America broke ground on a new logistics facility in Gaffney, S.C. The 200,000-square-foot facility will serve as a new logistics and material handling center for FCCC and will let the company use up to 60% more component kitting. Up to 100 employees will operate out of the new facility when it opens in early 2018.

According to FCCC, the new facility will free up space at the existing assembly facility and enable the truck maker to add a fourth line to its operations.

"The new logistics center will make FCCC more efficient and productive. For fleet managers, in particular, this means a significant increase in our production capacity and capability," said Bryan Henke, manager of product marketing for FCCC. "We’ll be able to more quickly and fully meet the custom demands of fleet managers across all of our product lines and categories. We take the 'custom' part of our name very seriously, and, as the number of parts we work with continues to grow, this logistics center will mean we can continue to provide custom solutions for our customers."

DTNA said the new facility is the centerpiece of a $22.7 million investment allowing FCCC to expand its facilities and capabilities and enhance its operations.

“This investment makes our current operations more efficient and effective and positions us for continued growth well into the future," said David Carson, president of FCCC.

In addition to the logistical and process enhancements made possible by the new facility, the investment will expand FCCC’s current office building in Gaffney. This will include a 25% increase in personal work stations, a quadrupling of training room capacity, doubling of available team work space, and significant increase in the break room capacity. The investment also will allow for additional employee parking and expanded capacity for completed chassis parking and loading/delivery operations.
