About 90% of the trucks fitted with the engine should reach the mileage milestone without service that involves removing cylinder heads or dropping the oil pan to reach internal components. Ford pairs the engine with its TorqShift HD 6-speed automatic transmission.

Ford used dynamometer testing to show that its B10 engine design could reach 500,000 miles, and only 10% of trucks tested would require major service.
The new engine is also 25% quieter at 60 mph and up to 45% quieter at idle inside the cabin. At the front of the grille, the truck is 35% quieter.
Ford offers the V-8 diesel with three power ratings, including 270 hp and 675 lb.-ft. of torque, 300 hp and 700 lb.-ft., and 330 hp and 725 lb.-ft. The B10 rating is based on the 330-hp version.
