Freight Transportation Research Associates Inc. said Monday that the driver labor market tightened for the second consecutive month in January 2005
, but projected the shortage will shrink slightly to just over 100,000 drivers in the second quarter.
The company, known as FTR Associates, explained that modest hiring activity will be offset by a slower growth in freight.
The assessment comes from The Driver Labor Market Indicators report published monthly by FTR. The report looks at supply and demand issues as well as how freight and broader labor markets affect the pool of available drivers. The company’s U.S. Freight Model collects and analyzes all data likely to impact freight movement and is based on specific characteristics for more than 200 commodity groups.
