Across the U.S. this week, diesel prices averaged $2.625, a 7.5-cent jump from last week
, according to the Department of Energy. This marks the third consecutive week the price has increased.

Since hitting a bottom of $2.496 on July 20, trucking's main fuel has gained 12.9 cents over the last three weeks. Prior to that, the average price had fallen 12 cents from June 22.

The average price is still $1.728 below the price during the same week last year, when it reached $4.353. The state of California saw the highest prices this week at $2.842, followed by the Central Atlantic and New England regions, at $2.755 and $2.701, respectively. The lowest prices were found in the Rocky Mountain and Gulf Coast regions, with $2.573 and $2.581, respectively.

Meanwhile, gasoline prices rose 9 cents this week, settling at $2.647 on average. The fuel has been rising alongside diesel, climbing 9.4 cents in the previous two weeks. Last year during this week, gas prices were averaging $3.809.

In contrast, U.S. crude oil landed at $70.60 a barrel Monday, down 33 cents from last week, Reuters reported. Crude hit its highest since June 12 last week, when it rose to $71.58.
