CSX Intermodal has expanded its international services by now running between Buffalo, N.Y., and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and Philadelphia
. The services use the new CSXI Buffalo Terminal opened in 2008, with the support of the New York Department of Transportation and Erie County, increasing CSXI's presence in the Buffalo and Toronto markets.

On-dock service going to Buffalo from the Elizabeth Marine Terminal at the PANYNJ will be available on the second day after departure, while Buffalo traffic going to the EMT will be arrive on the third day. The PANYNJ offers incentives to support on-dock rail solutions, including $25 to shippers for each container hauled by rail this year over their 2008 totals for rail use, and an additional $25 per container for new intermodal on-dock services.

Between Buffalo and Philadelphia, service will be available in three days going southbound and four days going northbound.

CSXI President Jim Hertwig said the company hopes to help shippers "seize the opportunities presented by long-term trends shaping freight flows today, like all-water routes to the East Coast and regional intermodalism." Hertwig added that CSXI already offers intra-regional on-dock service at the PANYNJ to the CSXI Stackbridge Terminal in Worcester, Mass., and similar services at other East Coast ports.

"This new CSXI service allows us to provide committed service to our East Coast and Canadian customers," said Gordon Dorsey, Senior Vice President, USA Operations Manager for Maersk Line.
