Con-Way Transportation Services, a subsidiary of CNF, along with its six U.S. operating companies, is heading back into the nation's public schools this week to participate in the national Red Ribbon drug abuse prevention campaign.
This is the 11th year in a row Con-Way has been a sponsor of the program. The campaign runs from October 15 to 19 and delivers anti-drug messages to young people.
"Red Ribbon's anti-drug message is an important one and Con-Way employees really reach out and make a difference nationwide," said Gerald L. Detter, president and CEO. "We feel it's extremely important to put our resources and people to work for Red Ribbon. We have over 16,500 employees nationwide, so we are able to support the program in a very significant way -- and we do."
Con-Way established an "Adopt-A-School" program for the campaign in which company employees take the program's message of a drug-free lifestyle to local schools. The program's red ribbons, embossed with this year's message, "I Have A Bright Future In My Hands -- I'm Drug Free!" are usually delivered to schools in Con-Way trucks.
The Red Ribbon campaign was established nationally in 1987 by Californians for Drug-Free Youth.
