The following traffic diversion and detours will be in place during the overnight hours:

  • I-95 southbound through traffic: will be diverted to keep left and enter into the HOV lanes near mile marker 169, just south of the Franconia-Springfield Parkway.

  • I-95 south local traffic: looking to access the Fairfax County Parkway, or Lorton Road area will be detoured to Backlick Road (Exit 167) to access the Fairfax County Parkway via Furnace Road and Lorton Road via Route 1.

  • Fairfax County Parkway south to 95 south motorists: will be directed to continue on Parkway to Telegraph Road, to Route 1 south to access I-95 south.

  • Fairfax County Parkway north to I-95 south: will continue on the Parkway north to the loop ramp of I-95 to the Parkway south to Telegraph Road, to Route 1 south to access I-95 south.

Following the initial steel placement, bridge work will continue over the lanes of I-95 South during the following week, August 26 - 30.  This will require multiple lane closures and intermittent full road closures up to 30 minutes each night after midnight.

All closures are weather permitting.  If inclement weather occurs, the full closure of I-95 South will take place Saturday night, August 24 into Sunday morning August 25.
