According to data recently released by Wards Intelligence, the sale of Class 3-8 trucks have seen a drop in almost every category, and every month, since the beginning of the year, possibly exasperated by the COVID-19 outbreak.
Beginning in January, Class 8 sales were down going into 2020, with more than 4,500 less trucks sold than in January 2019. After the country-wide lockdown in late March, April Class 8 numbers dipped even lower, with sales down by more than 11,000 trucks, and more than 15,000 trucks in May.
While Class 7 trucks were ahead in March with 474 more sales than 2019, they began to dip as well in April by more than 2,200 trucks. Comparatively, Class 6 trucks saw a difference of 3,196 trucks in March and 4,661 in April. Both have rebounded slightly in the last two months.
Medium-duty trucks, Class 3-5, saw a substantial increase in both January and February of this year over 2019, with 5,145 and 4,328 trucks, respectively. Starting in March, the numbers began to drop by more than 5,000 trucks, settling in at a decrease of 3,983 Class 3-5 trucks in June.
