Truckload carrier Celadon Group will ask college students to create artwork to be displayed on the side of a 53-foot trailer as part of its new "Art for the Long Haul" project
, according to reports by The Indianapolis Star. The prize will be a $5,000 scholarship.
While the program aims at commemorating company landmarks, it seems to be motivated by Chairman Stephen Russell's love of art, The Star says. Celadon's Indianapolis headquarters is full of paintings, photos and large sculptures, the publication reports.
The photo, painting or picture created by the winner will celebrate the company's 25th anniversary. The truck will first be displayed in New York in April, during which the company will ring the opening daily bell at the New York Stock Exchange.
The truck will then come back to Indianapolis for a party in Lucas Oil Stadium for the company's employees, the publication says.
The winner of the art contest will receive $5,000, while six finalists will win $500 each. Submissions are due by March 15, 2010.
