Carrier Transicold Adds All-Electric TRU for Stationary Cold Storage

Carrier Transicold said its new Vector 8200 is an all-electric transport refrigeration unit designed to give food fleets and shippers additional refrigerated or frozen storage capacity without running a diesel-powered TRU engine.
The engineless unit is intended for stationary refrigerated trailers used as supplemental cold storage during seasonal demand peaks, facility upgrades, or other situations requiring temporary capacity.
The Vector 8200 can handle both single- and multi-temperature applications and operates from grid electricity or another external power source. Because it has no diesel engine, it eliminates on-site fuel consumption and direct engine emissions while reducing noise.
Managing Power Demand
Carrier said the Vector 8200's TRU-Demand E-Drive energy-management system monitors electrical demand and adjusts to changes in the facility's power supply.
The system is designed to help maintain voltage during brownouts and reduce demand spikes when several refrigeration units restart following a power outage.
The Vector 8200 is Carrier Transicold's first engineless TRU with multi-temperature capability. Four remote evaporator options allow it to cool trailers with one, two, or three compartments.
“Customers need reliable temperature control whether they’re holding product at 35 or minus 20, and they need it without TRU engine noise or direct emissions at their facility,” said Greg Turner, associate director of trailer product management for Carrier Transicold.
Refrigerated and Frozen Storage
The Vector 8200 provides cooling capacity of up to:
- 58,000 BTU/hr at 35°F
- 33,500 BTU/hr at 0°F
- 22,000 BTU/hr at -20°F
The unit can support refrigerated, frozen, and deep-frozen storage applications and also provides electric heating and defrost while connected to shore power.
Carrier's APX controls include IntelliSet with ProductShield for temperature management and a DataLink recorder for logging temperature history.
The unit also integrates with Carrier's Lynx Fleet telematics platform for remote monitoring and two-way control.
Designed Without a Diesel Engine
The Vector 8200 uses a hermetic electric scroll compressor, microchannel condenser, AC fan motors, an electronic expansion valve, a 40-amp battery charger, and a TRU-mounted solar charging system.
Options include a liftgate battery charger and custom paint.
Carrier said the introduction comes 20 years after it launched its Vector platform with E-Drive electric refrigeration technology.
“When fleets need more cold storage, they usually need it fast, and they don’t want to run a diesel engine to get it,” Turner said. “The Vector 8200 lets them turn a trailer into flexible, multi-temperature storage that plugs in and holds precise temperatures.”
The Vector 8200 is available through Carrier Transicold's North American dealer network.
Carrier notes that while the engineless unit produces no direct emissions at the trailer, indirect emissions associated with electricity generation and refrigerant leakage are still possible.
