Updated 12:30 EDT. Three days after a terrorist attack on New York City and Washington, D.C., stunned the nation, there are still areas where highway travel has been affected.

According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, highways near and around the Hoover Dam have been closed to commercial vehicle traffic, indefinitely. Sources indicated this was a precautionary action, not in response to any direct threat.
Trucks trying to get back into the country at the borders need to be prepared for delays due to increased security checks. In Buffalo, N.Y., for instance, at the Peace Bridge and Queenston-Lewiston Bridge, U.S.-bound trucks should expect four to five hour delays because of increased security. Canadian-bound trucks have minimal delays.
The Holland Tunnel into Manhattan will remain closed in both directions until further
notice, while the Geroge Washington bridge's upper and lower levels are open in both directions. The Lincoln Tunnel is also open both ways.
Goethals Bridge is open both ways but has been experiencing delays this morning -- New York bound has very heavy delays due in large part to the lane closure on the Staten Island Expressway, while New Jersey bound traffic this morning was heavy and was temporarily closed to allow for a convoy across the span.
Brooklyn Battery Tunnel remains closed both ways (except for emergency vehicles, and Manhattan bound MTA and Command Buses)
The Brooklyn Bridge remains closed both ways, but the Manhattan Bridge and Williamsburg Bridge are open in both directions
The left lane of the Eastbound Staten Island Expressway (I-278) is closed for
emergency vehicles between Goethals Bridge and Verrazano Narrows Bridge
Lower Manhattan remains closed between Canal Street and Battery Park
from the East River to the Hudson River to vehicular traffic. The section between Canal Street and 14th Street from River to River has been reopened to vehicular traffic.
In Jersey City, N.J., the eastbound 139 covered roadway from Tonnelle Circle
to Holland Tunnel and the eastbound Pulaski Skyway at Tonnelle Ave Exit both remain closed until further notice.
The eastbound Hudson Bay Extension of the New Jersey Turnpike (I-78) is closed east of the 14C Toll Plaza between Grand Street and the Holland Tunnel (Jersey City)
Interchange 13 of the New Jersey Turnpike (Elizabeth/Goethals Bridge) is completely closed.
In Virginia, on I-395 the ramp to exit 8 remains closed in both directions until further notice.
The U.S. Coast Guard said it has reopened the Port of New York on a limited
basis to commercial traffic. According to the Journal of Commerce, the Port Newark Container Terminal was up and running as of 6 a.m. Thursday morning.
