The American Transportation Research Institute has added three new state regulations to the idling regulations compendium and cab card posted on its website.
Three states currently developing idling regulations have also been added.
The compendium provides a listing of truck idling limits, exemptions and fines as well as hyperlinks to more than 40 idling regulations throughout the United States. The cab card provides a quick reference guide to these limits and can be carried in the glove box of a truck.
Recent additions include:
• The State of Florida recently adopted a 5-minute idling limit which takes effect December 15, 2008. This new limit includes various exemptions, including when sleeping or resting in a sleeper berth.
• The State of Maine recently adopted a 5-minute limit which took effect July 1, 2008. This new limit includes various exemptions, including for sleeper berth heating or cooling during rest or sleep periods.
• The State of South Carolina recently adopted a 10-minute limit which took effect July 1, 2008 with warning tickets being issued during the first year. This new limit includes various exemptions, including for sleeper berth heating or cooling during rest or sleep periods.
• Idling regulations are being developed in the states of Georgia, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.
ATRI continues to monitor the development of idling regulations across the country and maintains the compendium and cab card as a free service to help trucking companies and truck drivers comply with the increasing number of state and local idling regulations.
