ABF Freight President and CEO Retires, Replacement Named

The president and CEO of the trucking company ABF Freight System, Roy M. Slagle, retired on Wednesday following 37 years of service.

The president and CEO of the trucking company ABF Freight System, Roy M. Slagle, retired on Wednesday following 37 years of service.

He is being succeeded immediately by Tim Thorne, who will take on the role as president. He most recently served as vice president of linehaul operations.

According to parent company Arcbest Corp., Thorne is 24-year veteran of ABF Freight and brings a background in operations and field management to the less-than-truckload carrier.

“Roy’s retirement is well-deserved after nearly four decades at ABF Freight,” said ArcBest President and CEO Judy R. McReynolds. “Over the years, Roy has helped guide ABF Freight through numerous challenges and successes. We wish him and his wife Karen all the best as they enjoy the fruits of retirement.”

Thorne joined ABF Freight in Orlando, Florida, in 1990 after serving as a captain in the U.S. Army. He managed several branches. Until 2013 he was regional vice president of pperations based in the Salt Lake City, Utah area.

He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Oklahoma and a Master of Business Administration from the University of North Alabama.
