Yellow Transportation, the Kansas-based subsidiary of Yellow Roadway Corp., said a record-breaking 21 of its professional drivers qualified to compete at the National Truck Driving Championships
scheduled Aug. 18-21 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Only winners of state truck driving championships qualify for the American Trucking Assns.' national championships. To participate in state competitions, drivers must be accident-free for one year before their state contest. Both the state and national competitions include written and oral examinations, a vehicle pre-trip inspection and a skills test behind the wheel.
"We are delighted to have 21 representatives of our company at the National Truck Driving Championships this year," says James Welch, president and chief executive officer of Yellow Transportation. "The skill and commitment to safety these professional drivers have demonstrated prove the dedication of Yellow to high quality and exceptional service."
This year, 294 Yellow drivers competed at the state level, 100 more than last year. The state contests began in April in Arizona and ended in July with contests in New Jersey and New York.
