You can’t help but smile when you read the story about how a disabled teenager who loves big rigs got a birthday present he’ll never forget – dozens of tractor-trailers turning up to Milton, Wisconsin, for his 16th birthday party.

Several TV and newspaper accounts popped up in my Google alerts about how Dakota Cadd, nicknamed Bubba, likes to sit in his wheelchair outside of his home near Highway 26 watching the trucks go by and giving them the arm signal asking them to lay on the horn.

Bubba has Dandy Walker syndrome, a congenital brain malformation that delays development of motor skills, and cerebral palsy, said Peggy Cadd, Bubba’s mother. Because of his conditions, he needs assistance to walk and gets around by wheelchair.

One day, Mark King, a truck driver for CH Hall Trucking in Stillman Valley, Illinois, threw a surprise over the fence – a bag with a trucking hat, company T-shirt and model truck.

Cadd’s mother posted the encounter on Facebook, and it was shared with hundreds of truckers. The drivers began to try and find a way they could do something more for Bubba, and the idea to throw a birthday party for Dakota was born.

According to published reports, the result of 18 Wheels for Bubba was the arrival of 182 trucks and hundreds of people at Schilberg Park in Milton to celebrate Bubba's 16th birthday. Bubba rode in a golf cart to tour all the trucks.

And as you would expect from any birthday party, there also was cake, presents, music and balloons.
