Fleet FAQ

Got Questions? Top ELD Questions Answered

Q. I’ve heard that ELDs can be used for more than creating RODS. What other kinds of data can I capture?

A. ELDs are required to capture a number of pieces of engine, location and other data so drivers can accurately account for their hours of service to create their RODS.

But many fleets are finding that ELDs are also a goldmine of data that can be used to help manage both their vehicle assets and drivers, making them more efficient and safer.

For example, ELDs can be used to:

  • Monitor idle time and speeding.
  • Manage productivity.
  • Track driver detention accurately.
  • Optimize route and fuel usage.
  • Analyze for operational improvements, such as capacity.
  • Improve safety and driver retention.

While it’s not required, you can further leverage this data by bundling your ELD with a telematics solution.
