A. Yes, it is crucial that your drivers and your back office staff understand how to use your ELD solution. If it is apparent to roadside inspectors that your drivers do not know how to operate their ELD, they will, in all likelihood, be issued a citation. Back office staff could net your operation a citation as well if, in the event of an audit, it’s clear they don’t know how to use your solution.
Training should include, but not be limited to: how to log in and log out, add annotations and use the transfer feature.
If you’re in the process of transitioning from an AOBRD to an ELD, you should make sure you’ve allotted an adequate amount of time for training. During the 2017 ELD implementation, many fleets discovered that they needed far more training time than they originally thought, which further complicated ELD implementation.
