Got Questions? ELDs and Telematics

Q. I know that if there’s a malfunction with an AOBRD, a fleet only has eight days to get a device repaired or replaced. But what if it takes longer? Can I request an extension?

A. Yes, it is possible to ask for an extension if the malfunction will prevent a driver from accurately recording his or her hours of service. To request an extension, a fleet must submit a request to the FMCSA division administrator in the state that is the fleet’s principal place of business within five days of being notified of the malfunction by the driver.
